It sounds like your trying to wire it the same as before. However, with the sequence your telling me: "power -> light 1 ->switch 1 -> switch 2 -> light", I don't see how it would work correctly, unless I assume the following:

However this sequence, would be power -> light 1 ->switch 1 -> switch 2 -> light -> power. So I'm not sure how it's wired in both lights. You would definitely want to make sure it's wired this way in the lights or otherwise you would be shorting a neutral & a hot thus creating a bang! Hope this helps.

Default Wiring it the same way...

Yes, we are trying to wire it the same way -- and it did work before. The diagram you supplied wouldn't work, since we only have one power source, and it has to go from one switch to the other.

This is what we're considering:
The one coming from the fan light is actually two hot wires, so we'll recode the white wire to black. That needs to go on both termials of the right switch. We would tap into the primary hot wire, and connect that with the hot wire going to the fixture, and to one terminal of the left switch. Then connect the white wire to the other switch terminal.

Thanks for your time!

Question

I don't see how this was wired before & worked. Unless the ground wire was used as a neutral & this would be unsafe. I would suggest calling an electrician in to check it out.

Post More clarification!

Thanks, Dox for your time on this. Figured out that the power coming out of the first light's white wire was recoded as black, so we actually have two hot wires coming into the first switch... Would you have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

No, there seems there would have to be more info if it worked before. You would still need to get a neutral to the 2nd light from somewhere. I would suggest to call an electrician.

I think the power source is coming from one of the lights to the switch, so would this make a difference on how I should jump the power to the other switch?

thanks!
it sounds like u have a switch loops, the feeds r in the light box. the constant is coming down on the white wires and back up on the black wire to the black wire to the light? let me know if this is true?

[QUOTE=MediumTee;7]We are re-doing our basement bathroom, and have run into an electrical issue, looking for suggestions...

There are two lights, two switches. However, there is only one power source coming in. Do we need to split both the hot and the neutral wires? Both switches are single pole, so that should make it a little easier!

Thanks for any suggestions!~

MT

ETA: the two switches are in the same box...[/QUOT]it sounds like a switch loop, the feed is in the light itself, there would be no neutral in the switch box. the neutral is already in the light box. the constant is coming down the white wire and back up on the black thats tied onto the light. need more info but to me it sounds like u have one set of wire, a black and white, and another set of wire a black and a white and thats it. is this correct.

Are you still having trouble?
I would say that it is 2 switch loops, ou would have to test them to be sure
If you have a tester seperate all the wires so no copper is touching anything, turn your breaker back on and see which wires are "hot".. if there are 2 hot wires, probably the 2 whites they are loops. You tie those white wires to the bottom of your switches, and the blacks on the top... then you should be good. Hope it helped
